Farmers' Day Fair, coming Aug. 19 - 22

Our excitement here at the Chimney Hill offices can barely be contained. Why? Because the annual Deerfield Valley Farmers' Day Fair is coming to Wilmington this weekend, August 19 - 22!

This fair is seriously awesome. It's been running for over 90 years now and it seems to get better every year. We'll get to our favorite part in a minute, but first we have to tell you about all the events and activities (we'll give you a hint, though... it's loud and involves a lot of bent metal).

Fun for the whole family? Absolutely. Grandma can get her groove on in the Bingo Tent all weekend. Meanwhile, Lil' Suzie can attend the Horse Show Saturday morning. Suzie's brother Billy will be heard screaming in delight as he revs his riding lawnmower engine at the Children's Lawnmower Pull Friday afternoon.

We imagine Dad could be found at the Saw Contest Saturday morning. After the workout, he'll have a big apetite, so it's only fitting that he enters the Pie Eating contest that afternoon. And Mom? She'd probably enjoy the Horse Pull. But it's a safe bet she'll be poking around the Exhibit Halls all weekend, perusing the Valley's summer bounty.

But our favorite part, without a doubt, is the Demolition Derby on Sunday. There's something about the roaring V8 engines, the blown radiators billowing steam, the sound of metal crunching against metal... it's a live spectacle that no action movie can match. Last year, about 45 cars competed for cash prizes and trophies. With all the different heats, the whole derby lasted over 4 hours. Talk about getting your money's worth for some entertainment! We are giddy with anticipation for this year's derby. Will Dan Brown repeat as champion in the six and eight-cylinder class? We'll see.

For a full schedule of the fair, running Thursday, August 19 through Sunday, August 22, please visit www.dvfair.com. You'll also find applications for the contests and Demolition Derby at the site.

And, as always, we'd be happy to set you up in one of our rental homes if you need a place to rest your head after the pie eating, derbying, horse pulling and ride riding. Have a blast!
