Valentine's Day weekend in the Mount Snow Valley is truly an amazing experience. The snow, the solitude, the beautiful setting... they all add up to a perfectly romantic couple of days. Dozens of romantic restaurants and inns line the Rte. 100 corridor between Mount Snow and Wilmington, and there are several options for romantic activities (and some special lift ticket deals to boot). It's hard to narrow down the best and most romantic spots, but we'll try. Here are our suggestions for the perfect romantic Valentine's Day at Mount Snow...
1. Romantic Inn - If you're looking for a warm and cozy spot close to the ski slopes, we recommend the Deerhill Inn. With a variety of rooms of differing taste and style, the Deerhill has several rooms with fireplaces and views of the mountains -- what else do you need for a romantic trip? If you're thinking of staying in Brattleboro, a charming town about 30 minutes from Mount Snow with great shopping, dining and activities, check out Forty Putney Road Bed and Breakfast. This Tudor mansion-turned-inn has become one of southern Vermont's premiere places to stay. Tim and Amy, the young, hip innkeepers, are self-professed beer geeks who run a small tavern downstairs (for guests only) that features some of Vermont's rarest and best beers.
2. Restaurant - There are literally dozens of high quality restaurants in the Mount Snow Valley, but the top stop may be Ravello, an Italian trattoria about halfway between Wilmington and the ski slopes. Their wine list is thorough and excellent, and there menu features everything from "Baby Spinach, Green Apple and Goat Cheese Salad" to Osso Bucco with "braised veal shank served over creamy polenta". Mangia!
3. Mount Snow lift ticket deal - Mount Snow is running a special lift ticket discount on Valentine's Day, February 14. Just show up to the ticket window with your loved one and you'll receive 2 tickets for just $49. As far as we know, they won't ask you for "proof" that you're in love. But a kiss can't hurt.
4. Things to Do - If you need a reason to venture out of your romantic room aside from skiing or a fantastic meal, you'll want to visit Adams Farm, located just off of Rte. 100, for a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. You'll spend 35 to 40 minutes sliding on the snow past streams, fields and rolling hills, drawn by Vermont Morgan Horses. Reservations are required.
