If you're looking for some of the best things to do in Vermont with your family this winter, then look no further. Our area's got a great range of kid-friendly winter activities that are sure to keep kids (of all ages) entertained.
Go Snow Tubing While plenty of families enjoy going skiing and snowboarding together, it can also be good to find something that's easy and fun for the whole family, even the little ones. One of the best family things to do in Vermont is to head out to the slopes for a little snow tubing. At Mount Snow, the entire family can get some quality downhill action without the complications (and expense) of renting equipment, arranging lessons and shelling out for high-priced lift tickets. The nominal fee covers use of a tube, and riders can bounce down the slope as many times as they like and enjoy being carried right back to the top by "The Magic Carpet" surface lift.
Go Ice Fishing If you don't feel like fighting the crowds at the mountain, then hit the ice instead. Ice fishing is one of the best things to do in Vermont during the winter, and proves popular with fishermen (and fisherwomen!) of all ages. One of the state's biggest ice fishing events is the Harriman Reservoir Ice Fishing Derby near Wilmington. Anyone can participate in this huge event and compete with hundreds of other anglers for thousands of dollars in prizes. The event takes place in late February.
Skate it Up If sitting on the ice for hours on end isn't your style, ice skating is also one of the most popular things to do in Vermont with kids. There are tons of different places to skate nearby, including indoor and outdoor rinks and even hockey facilities! For more information on where to go skating, take a look at our recent post about ice skating in southern Vermont.
Get Chocolatey Say it's a little too cold outside for all these ice and snow activities, why not warm yourself up in the Chocolatorium? A permanent exhibit in Arlington, just a few short miles north of Bennington, the Chocolatorium is an educational experience devoted to all things chocolate. Complete with chocolate classes, chocolate history, and - of course - chocolate to take home with you, the Chocolatorium will make your trip to Vermont a little bit sweeter.
Hit the Lanes After a long day out in the cold - or a long day of eating chocolate - it's always fun to get together and have an old-fashioned round of 10-pin bowling. At the Brattleboro Bowl, you and your family can hang out and bowl, or check out the pool tables, game room and full snack bar. And with easy automatic scoring, bumper bowling, and even party packages, the Brattleboro Bowl is one of the simplest and most fun things to do in Vermont with your family.
Sleep It Off Of course, after all this activity, you and your family are going to need somewhere close and comfortable to get your energy back for the next day. Well, lucky for you we have plenty of both long-term and short-term southern Vermont real estate rentals available just a few minutes away from Mount Snow and all the other great things to do in Vermont.
